Jack Rudoni was absent from Coventry City's 3-0 win over Birmingham City on Saturday
Frank Lampard has revealed that Jack Rudoni is set to miss a number of weeks due to a calf issue that kept him out of Coventry City’s win over Birmingham City.
The Sky Blues were without their talismanic playmaker when the lineups were revealed just an hour before kick-off, much to the surprise of supporters.
However, an injury to his calf is set to see him miss the next few fixtures, in what has come as a blow to the Championship side.
Rudoni has proven a key figure in Lampard’s team, making a particularly strong start to the current campaign.
The 25-year-old contributed two goals and one assist from the opening six games of the new season before missing the 3-0 victory over Chris Davies’ side on Saturday.
Lampard has confirmed that it will take Rudoni some weeks to recover from his current calf issue, meaning he likely won’t be seen until at least after the October international break.
He claimed that the problem was suffered in the 0-0 draw against Leicester City over a week ago, a fixture in which he played the full 90 minutes.
“He's got a calf injury so will be out for some weeks,” said Lampard, via the BBC.
“We can't put a date on it at this point but it's disappointing.
"The injury came from the Leicester game.
“He's had a bad shoulder all week and hasn't really trained, so we only found out at the back end of the week.
“It's a big loss for us."
Lampard will be pleased with his side’s performance despite the absence of Rudoni, with the team claiming all three points at home against a possible promotion rival.
Goals from Brandon Thomas-Asante and Victor Torp, as well as an own goal from Bright Osayi-Samuel, sealed a 3-0 victory at the CBS Arena.
The result has moved Coventry up to second in the Championship table, four points behind league leaders Middlesbrough after the first seven games.
Next up for the Sky Blues is a midweek clash away to Millwall at the Den on 1 October in a 7.45pm kick-off.
Rudoni has been very impressive since the appointment of Lampard almost a year ago, so his absence will be felt in the coming weeks.
Coventry will be encouraged by the manner of the win over Birmingham given the midfielder’s injury, showing that they can cope in the absence of their star man — even if it's still a clear blow.
It won’t help the Sky Blues that there are a lot of games coming up over the next month, even with the international break at the start of October.
The sooner that Coventry can get Rudoni fit and back in the side the better because he has truly become one of their most important players over the last year under Lampard.
Indeed, retaining Rudoni's services across the summer, where strong speculation surrounding his future persisted, represented a major statement of intent from the Sky Blues, who will be hoping that his recovery process is as quick and smooth as possible.
