His tenure saw Ipswich promoted back to the Premier League for the first time since the 2001/02 campaign, and now the club are seen as one of the Championship's premier sides once more.

After a few years when it seemed that the Tractor Boys were going to get lost in the wilderness in the third tier, fans at Portman Road have plenty to thank their current manager for on the field.

That greatfulness extends to his loyalty off the field too, as several Premier League sides have expressed their interest in the 39-year-old over the years, from Chelsea to West Ham United. Now, it's Celtic's turn.

After Brendan Rodgers resigned on Monday, following the club's 3-1 loss to table-toppers Hearts, McKenna has emerged as a candidate for the vacant job, according to talkSPORT and a variety of other outlets.

Kieran McKenna's win percentage at Ipswich Town

The interest in McKenna is understandable, as despite suffering a relegation last season, the Ipswich boss still has plenty of credit in the bank, and a solid win percentage, due in part to his work in getting the club from League One to the Premier League in just two and a half years from his appointment.

The Ipswich manager has a win percentage of 46%, according to Fotmob. Of the 187 games he's managed at the Portman Road-based side, he's won 86, drawn 50 and lost 51.

To have that record, despite coming off the back of a campaign where the Tractor Boys won just four out of 38 Premier League matches, is still very impressive, and further emphasises the good job he did en route to earning a first top-flight season for Ipswich in 23 years.

Taking away those 38 games, McKenna's win percentage would stand at 55%, with 82 wins in 149 games.

Whilst, unfortunately, his first season managing in the Premier League didn't go to plan, there's still an expectation that, as and when he gets back there, he'll finish with a better winning record.

Kieran McKenna's win percentage will need to be higher at Celtic Park if he is to stop Hearts from winning the Scottish Premiership

If Celtic were to go for the former Manchester United coach as their man to take over from Brendan Rodgers, his already impressive win percentage would need to be even higher if the Bhoys are to win a fifth straight SPL title.

Hearts look unstoppable through the opening stages of the campaign, winning eight of their nine games and drawing the other. They currently have an eight-point gap on Celtic, and knowing how dominant sides in that division can be, that'll be a difficult barrier to chip away at.

McKenna would have to bring out the dominance shown by the two Ipswich sides, who made League One and the Championship look simple at times, to finish above their title rivals.
