Jess Park was the player of the match as Manchester United held defending champions Chelsea to a 1-1 draw in the Women’s Super League on Friday night.

And the Lioness – who switched to United from City on transfer deadline day last month – admitted she was a little disappointed that United couldn’t seize the win at the last.

Wieke Kaptein had put the Blues in front within ten minutes before Anna Sandberg’s brilliant strike levelled things up.

And the rest of the match was end to end as the top two teams in the league sought a winning goal in vain.

“We had really good moments in the game,” Park told the club’s website afterwards. “Chances created, we need to stay a bit more clinical.

“Alternatively, they had good chances, Maya [Le Tissier] with a super tackle at the end that kept us 1-1.

“You’ve got to take it, but we’d like to win them games.”

And she emphasised the need for United to convert some of those chances they created.

“It’s really starting to click now. You’ve seen how many chances we created: we can build from the back, we can build it longer, we’re a bit more creative in the style. The [dynamism] is hard for teams to cope with.

“It’s coming together and I think if we just get a bit more clinical we’ll be right up there.”

Jess Park: We’re getting the little details right

Park also reflected on how much she was enjoying her football since her cross-city switch.

“That’s what I wanted to do, come and play football and enjoy it and be creative and dynamic, linking with players. You can see it coming off now. We’ve worked on it in training, we’ve worked on it together, and I think we’re getting the little details a lot more right now.”

And head coach Marc Skinner had plenty of praise for Park in his post-match press conference – as well as her link-up with Ella Toone.

“She’s electric, she twists, she turns. Chelsea adapted their shape to play against us with two controllers in [midfield] to make sure that they killed Jess’s spaces. But she still found them.

“I thought she was incredible, and I think she and Tooney brought each other to life a little bit more and they’re much more fluid now than we’ve ever been. Jess is a big reason to help us do that.”
