Marco Asensio is off to a fantastic start with Aston Villa as the Spaniard has scored seven goals in eight appearances for the Premier League side.

The veteran’s last two goals came this week in the UEFA Champions League with a brace against Club Brugge. Moreover, Villa advancing means that there will be a clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

Asensio will get a shot at facing the coach who limited his playing time this season, which played a big role in his move to Villa Park during the winter transfer window.

On the other side, Unai Emery will go up against the club he led from 2016 to 2018, a tenure that saw him win a league title, two Coupe de France trophies, two Coupe de la Ligue titles, and two Trophée des Champions victories.

Nonetheless, before the first leg next month, PSG and Aston Villa could be discussing an Asensio permanent transfer. TEAMtalk reported on Thursday, citing sources, that Villa are already working on a deal to sign Asensio permanently.

PSG are open to a transfer, and talks are ongoing. The report suggests discussions are centered around a deal worth about £18 million. Aston Villa are looking to secure a bargain, as he’ll be in the final year of his PSG contract by June.

Asensio is reportedly happy at Villa and enjoying working with Unai Emery. The club initially planned to assess his loan spell before deciding, but his strong performances have accelerated the process.

Negotiations between Villa and PSG are progressing well, and the club is eager to finalize a deal quickly to ward off potential summer competition.
