With Senegal into the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals, Lamine Camara and Krépin Diatta have been unavailable for AS Monaco since late December. Their situations are set to prompt talks in the weeks ahead.
According to Nice-Matin, Camara is attracting interest from clubs across the four major leagues, including sides in European competition, but unless an offer that is hard to refuse arrives he should finish the season at Monaco.
Monaco’s qualification, or not, for the next stage of the Champions League could weigh heavily on his future. A sufficiently sizeable bid before the end of the winter window could also change the plan.
Out of contract in June, Diatta is not ruling out an extension at Monaco. The 26-year-old is in form for Senegal, feels settled at the club and has moved past his early-season frustration at being left off the Champions League squad list.
Sébastien Pocognoli has said that had he been in charge at the start of the season, Diatta would likely have been included. It is understood the decision was not sporting and did not originate from then coach Adi Hütter, but from a hierarchy that had considered his departure. The club’s stance on a possible new deal for a player noted for his commitment remains to be seen.
