The details of an exchange between Real Madrid pair Xabi Alonso and Vinícius Jr. during the club’s latest outing have come to the fore online.
This comes after the latter made his way off the pitch in Los Blancos’ La Liga meeting with Deportivo Alavés on Sunday.
Real Madrid are of course fresh off a much-needed return to winning ways yesterday evening, emerging on the right side of a 2-1 result at Mendizorrotza.
Winger Vinícius for his part featured from the off in the fixture, and played a crucial part in his side’s eventual triumph, laying on the assist for Rodrygo’s late winner.
Shortly after, however, the 25-year-old was left fuming with the team of officials.
Surging into the hosts’ penalty area courtesy of a trademark run, Vinícius went to ground under a challenge on the part of Nahuel Tenaglia.
All associated with Real Madrid immediately called for a spot-kick to be awarded, but these cries, led by Vinícius himself, went unanswered.
As the Brazilian departed the field of play upon being substituted in the game’s dying moments, Xabi Alonso was therefore quick to back his attacking star.
As per a report from Marca, citing Movistar, Los Blancos’ headmaster assured Vinícius:
“It was a clear penalty.”
And Viní responded to his manager by explaining:
“He didn’t call it because it was me. A clear penalty!”
