Paris Saint-Germain will head back to the French capital with a one-goal advantage after edging Arsenal 1–0 on Tuesday night at Emirates Stadium in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semifinal.

The Ligue 1 side wasted no time getting on the scoresheet. Ousmane Dembélé struck in the fourth minute, capping off a sharp sequence he started himself.

Dembélé switched play out wide to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who drove into the box and cut the ball back with the outside of his right foot. Dembélé met it with a low shot that bounced off the post and in.

Arsenal thought they had found an equalizer later in the match, but VAR ruled it out, leaving PSG in control heading into the return leg in Paris.

The Gunners receive honest analysis

Amazon Prime pundit Wayne Rooney revealed that he was disappointed with how the Gunners played the contest as it wasn’t to the level that they showed against Real Madrid.

“PSG could have won the game by two or three,” Rooney said (h/t BBC). “I was a bit disappointed with how Arsenal played and the fans too. It was subdued. It was like they beat Real Madrid and would walk into the final.”

Moreover, Rooney was critical of manager Mikel Arteta during his postgame analysis.

“Arteta can’t go away from the game plan that they’ve had for the majority of the season,” Rooney added (h/t BBC). “They have to go and be patient. Keep themselves in the game and then gamble towards the end.”
