Jonathan David and Ismael Koné featured for Canada at the 2026 World Cup and face a very different future now that club football returns.

Canada’s run to the World Cup Round of 16 has only heightened interest in the nation’s football future, while many supporters are also exploring new online casinos.

Two Serie A players represented Canada in a tournament they co-hosted alongside Mexico and the USA and which ended with Spain’s victory over Argentina in a Final played in New York.

Canda stars face different Serie A future

Spain’s victory means they have now beaten Italy for the longest unbeaten streak in international football (38).

Juventus striker David contributed to Canada’s run with three goals in five games, all scored in the same game against Qatar in the second group stage game.

On the other hand, Sassuolo midfielder Koné was forced to withdraw early due to a severe leg injury after a very promising start to the competition. He immediately underwent surgery after the match against Qatar and will be forced to the sidelines for several months.

Before the World Cup, David and Koné had completed their first season in Serie A with very different feelings.

David joined Juventus as a free agent from Lille, but only managed eight goals in 46 appearances and failed to make the most of Dusan Vlahovic’s lengthy injury in the second part of the campaign.

Koné, 24, scored six goals in 36 matches across all competitions and was one of the standout performers of a newly promoted Sassuolo team that secured a comfortable survival under Fabio Grosso.

Due to his injury, Koné is not expected to be subject to transfer speculation this summer, but the same isn’t true of his compatriot David.

Despite his three World Cup goals, in fact, Luciano Spalletti is reportedly eager to make a fresh start up front for Juve by selling both the Canadian striker and Lois Openda.

Multiple sources in Italy, including Gazzetta, claim that David is not part of Spalletti’s plans, yet the ex-Lille star wants to remain in Turin and fight for his place in the starting XI. Time will tell whether the 26-year-old manages to convince his coach to give him another chance.

David spoke fondly of Koné after the midfielder’s horror injury at the World Cup: “Koné means everything to this team,” David said after Canada’s 6-0 win over Qatar on June 19.

“If you ask the same question to any guy on this team, they will tell you the same. He is someone that we love a lot.”

Both David’s Juventus contract and Koné’s agreement with Sassuolo end in June 2030.
