The antics of the Thai businessman have been well-documented in recent years, with Wednesdayites being put through relegation to League One, and serious financial turmoil by their former owner.

It's extremely rare you see supporters overjoyed about their club entering administration, but that was the case for Wednesday fans, as it finally brought to an end the nightmare reign of Chansiri, which lasted far too long and brought the Owls to their knees. The delayed payment of player wages was a particular sticking point towards the end of Chansiri's reign, with his commitment to continual financial investment at Hillsborough having weakened.

Whilst the Owls have faced sanctions for their owner's irresponsible actions, it feels like a small price to pay for the club to finally have him out, but they aren't the only party who've faced repercussions of Chansiri's ownership, as he himself is now banned from owning an EFL club.

With the recent news of Chansiri's ban from ownership in the EFL, Football League World decided to take a look at the earliest possible opportunity the Thai businessman could be back at the helm of an English club.

When Dejphon Chansiri can next own an EFL club after being struck with ban

There have been too many examples over the years of irresponsible ownership in the EFL, and Chansiri's reign is one of the worst examples considering the duration of time he was in post at Sheffield Wednesday.

The Thai businessman's decade-long tenure as owner of the Steel City club was effectively brought to an end once the club entered administration, following years upon years of financial turmoil, which ultimately culminated in a huge points deduction from the EFL.

However, Chansiri wasn't exempt from punishment for his actions at Hillsborough, and was slapped with a three-year ban from being a director at any club in the EFL, temporarily ensuring the same situation doesn't unfold elsewhere.

This means that the earliest we could see the former Wednesday owner back in the EFL is at the end of 2028, should any club owners be even remotely interested in working with him or selling their club to him.

Whilst the EFL will be safe from Chansiri for the foreseeable future, nothing is stopping him from looking abroad for his next venture into football ownership, as the sanctions imposed only stop him from having involvement in English clubs.

It remains unclear whether this will be an avenue that the 57-year-old will pursue if he remains keen to be involved in football ownership, but could spell trouble for unsuspecting clubs abroad, who aren't familiar with Chansiri's time at Sheffield Wednesday.

Three-year ban will feel rather lenient on Dejphon Chansiri

You have to feel sorry for Sheffield Wednesday supporters, who've been through a nightmare decade under the Chansiri regime. Years of financial instability and mismanagement have eventually led to their current predicament, with relegation to League One inevitable.

It's a story we hear far too often, rich owners buying an EFL club and promising the world, only to have the club end up in administration and, in the worst cases, even liquidation within a matter of years.

The EFL conduct fit and proper tests on all potential club owners to assess their suitability, but some who will go on to run a club into the ground do end up slipping through the cracks of these tests, and that was the case with the Owls and their previous owner.

Now we've seen what Chansiri is capable of at the helm of an EFL club, you can't help but think a three-year ban is rather lenient, considering the damage he caused over a decade at the Yorkshire club.

It's evident that the 57-year-old isn't fit to run a football club, and not sanctioning him for longer than three years runs a real risk of the situation at Sheffield Wednesday replicating itself elsewhere.
