Boca dropped out of the Copa Libertadores and into the Sudamericana, where O'Higgins await in the play-offs. After Friday's draw in Paraguay, a Superclásico with River could arrive in the semi-finals.

According to LaNumer12.com.ar, both sides landed on the same half of the bracket, so a final is off the table but a late meeting remains possible. River won their group and enter in the last 16, while Boca must clear three two-legged ties.

If Boca advance, they would face Recoleta in the next round, then the winner of a demanding section featuring Bolívar, Gremio and São Paulo.

River’s route would start against Santa Fe or Caracas in the last 16, then a quarter-final with the victor from a quadrant containing Independiente Medellín, Vasco da Gama and Olimpia.

Because River came from Pot 1 after winning their group, they would hold home advantage in any semi-final. That would place the first leg at La Bombonera and the return in Núñez.
