Scotland will end their 28-year wait to play in a men’s World Cup when the Tartan Army face Haiti in their opening match of the tournament.

Steve Clarke’s side may have played at back-to-back European Championships but their return to the international stage has been long awaited.

And, like in 1998, they will play Brazil and Morocco in Group C of the tournament bidding to advance to the knockout stages for the first time.

First, though, is an opening clash with Haiti in Boston, with a win potentially enough to advance as one of the best-ranked third-place teams.

Indeed, Scotland’s last win at a major men’s tournament was against Switzerland at Euro 96, now 30 years ago.

When is Scotland’s first game at World Cup 2026?

Unless you’ve made the journey to North America, Scotland’s opening match at the World Cup will arrive in the early hours of Saturday 14 June. Kick-off is 2am BST (UK time). At local time, Scotland’s game against Haiti is at 9pm on Friday 13 June. It will be shown live on the BBC.
