Updates from Gianluca Di Marzio show that the 18-year-old arrived at the airport in Italy just after 10.00 BST (11.00 local time) in order to board a flight headed for the UK.

Thursday’s report claims that Leoni only ever had eyes for Liverpool, despite reported interest from a number of top Serie A sides including Inter, Milan and Juventus.

Milan, who were also on the lookout for a centre-back to replace recent Newcastle United signing Malick Thiaw, have decided to go for a cheaper option in Koni De Winter from Genoa, while Inter are reportedly looking at Udinese’s Oumar Solet and Sevilla’s Loic Bade.

Leoni, meanwhile, is expected to team up with Liverpool ahead of the start of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign this weekend. It remains to be seen how regularly Arne Slot intends on playing the youngster in his first-team.
