Sunderland’s net spend in 2025/26 placed them among the league’s heavier investors, leading the newly promoted trio.

Sunderland Echo notes that, after two seasons when promoted sides went straight back down, both Sunderland and Leeds United stayed up, with the Black Cats flourishing.

Sunderland spent 156m, recouped 37m, for a net spend of 119m, the biggest among the promoted clubs. Leeds spent 100.1m, brought in 8.6m, leaving a 91.5m net outlay.

Rivals Newcastle United endured a difficult campaign despite heavy activity, spending 252m and recouping 157m for a 95m net spend.

Arsenal won the Premier League for the first time since the Invincibles season in 2003/04, holding off a late Manchester City push. They posted the highest net spend across the last two windows, with 263m out and 12.9m in, a 250m net figure.

Liverpool’s 442m spend and 207m recoup left a 235m net outlay, which was 69m more than Manchester United. City’s net figure sat just under 100m below Liverpool’s.
