Germany discovered their opponents for this summer’s World Cup as they bid to qualify from the group stage for the first time since winning it in 2014.
Julian Nagelsmann's team will start their campaign with tournament debutants Curaçao. The CONCACAF team had an unbeaten qualifying campaign as they beat Jamaica for an automatic place in the World Cup with three wins and three draws in the final round. It'll be the first game for Germany against the smallest nation to qualify for the World Cup.
The second group stage match will see Germany lock horns with Côte d'Ivoire. It's the first time the two teams will meet in a competitive match. Lukas Podolski's two goals secured a 2-2 draw with Côte d'Ivoire in preparation for the 2010 World Cup. The equalizing goal came in the 93rd minute of the game at the Veltins Arena. Emerse Faé's team finished their qualifying campaign unbeaten as they finished top of the group ahead of Gabon.
Germany will close out the group with their second World Cup meeting with Ecuador. The two teams also met in the last group stage game in the 2006 World Cup, which was staged in Germany. Miroslav Klose's brace and Podolski's first-ever World Cup goal secured a 3-0 victory for the hosts at the Olympiastadion. Sebastián Beccacece's side finished second in the CONMEBOL qualifiers behind holders Argentina.
