Overview of our transfers in 2025

The business of the transfer windows in both winter and summer is a big part of modern football, and our club takes a significant role of the development of so many promising players. Every year we get to ask the likes of: Who's taking the next step? Who's seizing the opportunity in Salzburg to conquer the big stage? This year, several of our players have moved on too. While exceptional talents like Kerim Alajbegovic and others have come in to try to make us forget our former favourites in one way, their impact will be remembered. Before we count down to the new transfer window on New Year's Eve, let's take the opportunity to recap the arrivals and departures over the past 12 months.

Arrivals

This year, we were delighted to welcome six new players from over the border with Germany. Karim Onisiwo kicked things off, returning to the Salzburg from Mainz with all the experience of over 200 appearances in the German top flight. Even though injuries have hampered his progress so far at our club, one highlight will remain his forever: the winning goal in the chaotic Club World Cup match against CF Pachuca. Yorbe Vertessen, who joined from Union Berlin in February, also knows how to find the back of the net. The Belgian, despite being somewhat overshadowed by top scorer Petar Ratkov, is poised to have his best season as a professional. After all, the 1.74-meter-tall striker is just one league goal away from matching his personal record from his time at PSV Eindhoven.

In the summer, Kerim Alajbegovic, Frans Krätzig and Stevie Lainer beamed all over our social channels as the trio arrived in Salzburg. Kerim, of course, lived up to all expectations, becoming a key player – if he scores, we tend to win – and after a strong September, he received a debut Player of the Month award in no time. Frans is a likeable figure in the left-back position, while the returning Stevie, as is well known, roams the right flank. Anrie Chase, who won the German Cup with VfB Stuttgart and Krätzig in 2024/25, completes the six-strong arrival list but is still waiting to make his debut due to injury.

What can help settling into a new team? A favourite opponent doesn't do any harm. Chase's compatriot Sota Kitano has already found one in SV Ried – the creative midfielder has scored in both encounters with them. Furthermore, the 21-year-old was delighted to celebrate his debut for the Japanese national team just a few weeks ago.

Also new to the squad are Jacob Rasmussen and Clement Bischoff. One is a defensive linchpin and an absolute workhorse – no other outfield player has logged more competitive minutes – while the other is responsible for scoring and assisting goals. Clement is gaining form all the time - since mid-October, the promising youngster has featured in every match.

Departures

Samson 'Sammy' Baidoo is writing with RC Lens what could turn out to be the best French success story since Ratatouille in 2007. Les Artesiens are surprisingly sitting atop Ligue 1, not least because, with Baidoo as a regular starter, they boast the best defence in the French top flight. Daouda Guindo, who recently secured a starting spot at Stade Brest, is looking up to his former team-mate in the standings.

Meanwhile, Amar Dedic, still undefeated on the domestic stage with Benfica, and Oscar Gloukh – most recently the Champions League match-winner for Ajax against Qarabag – are also making positive headlines. Jonas Krumrey is delighted with his starting position at second-division club Holstein Kiel, while Hamburg's new signing Nicolas Capaldo is clearly delighted to have taken the captain's armband and a derby victory against Werder Bremen a few weeks ago. While Ignace Van der Brempt is having to weather a difficult few weeks at Serie A club Como, having recently spent much of his time on the bench, Dorgeles Nene is in strong form for both Fenerbahce (currently eight goal involvements in the league) and Mali at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Our other departures: Kamil Piatkowski and Lawrence Agyekum are fighting for survival with Legia Warsaw and Cercle Brugge, respectively (under coach Onur Cinel in Belgium) while Fernando is still waiting for his first goal for Red Bull Bragantino. Samson Tijani is the midfield enforcer for Dukla Prague, and Bryan Okoh (currently with Lausanne-Sport) can dream of further UEFA Conference League highlights in the new year alongside on-loan player Gaoussou Diakite. Meanwhile, Cracovia playmaker and Salzburg lad Dijon Kameri recently made his comeback after recovering from a shoulder injury.
