With the 2024/25 season nearing its conclusion, Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United will be considering how they can strengthen their squad this summer to solidify their place in the Premier League’s top four and become regular contenders in Europe too.
The Magpies have enjoyed a fine season, winning the Carabao Cup and look in a strong position to secure Champions League qualification.
But with a return to Europe and more games likely on the horizon, Newcastle know they will have to strengthen their squad this summer.
So, who has been linked with a move to St. James’ Park and who could they sign?
With 18 goals and 6 assists in 35 matches, Cameroon international Bryan Mbeumo has attracted interest from several high-profile Premier League clubs — including Newcastle United. Rumours suggest the Magpies are seriously considering a move for the Brentford winger, but have been put off by a £60 million asking price, which they may be reluctant to meet. He would certainly add more goals and more pace to this Newcastle side though.
Newcastle United are reportedly preparing to hold talks with Juventus over midfielder Douglas Luiz. However, speculation suggests that Juventus may prefer to include Luiz in potential swap deals as they pursue their own targets — with Manchester United’s Rasmus Højlund said to be a top priority.
With United undergoing a potential squad reshuffle, Luiz’s move to Newcastle could prove difficult. But his move to Juve has not panned out as hoped and he would provide some valuable depth in the middle of the park for Howe.
With Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah available on a free transfer this summer, Newcastle have reportedly shown interest in the German international. They’re hoping to bolster their defence and add depth to a back-line that has long lacked it. However, competition for Tah’s signature is fierce, with Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich all reportedly in the mix.
Newcastle have reportedly contacted Bayern Munich regarding defender Kim Min-jae, amid competition from Chelsea and others. The South Korean international has struggled for regular starts in Bavaria and is reportedly considering an exit, following a disappointing season that fell short of expectations after his impressive campaign with Napoli in Serie A. Bayern paid £53 million for him in 2023 so he would command a hefty fee.
Newcastle’s attempts to sign the Crystal Palace defender were unsuccessful last summer but early rumours suggest he could be available for around £40 million this time around. The centre-back has made no progress on extending his current contract with Palace, and if Newcastle choose to wait, he would be available on a free transfer in 2026.
The Lille striker is available on a free transfer this summer and is understandably commanding plenty of interest. He has scored 25 goals in all competitions for the French side this season and has proven to be a reliable source of goals year upon year. He would provide important back-up for Alexander Isak.
Newcastle have been heavily linked with the Burnley goalkeeper for some time now. He has enjoyed a phenomenal season with the Clarets, keeping 29 clean sheets in the league and helping them to win promotion back to the Premier League.
