Inter finished the league phase in fourth place, which means they are one of eight teams to have qualified directly for the round of 16.

As it stands, Inter could face two Italian teams in what would be an incredible Serie A derby in the round of 16.

They will face one of four potential opponents in their next Champions League match: Either Milan, PSV, Feyenoord or Juventus.

Atalanta finished the league phase in ninth place after a brave 2-2 draw away against Barcelona on Wednesday night, which means, somewhat cruelly, that they will have to settle for a place in the play-offs.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side will play against either Sporting CP or Club Brugge in the play-off round.

After a disappointing 2-1 loss away against Fabio Cannavaro’s Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday night, Milan finished in 13th place, despite being in the top eight at the start of the night.

They will play against either Feyenoord or Juventus in the play-off round.

Juventus were also soundly beaten on Wednesday night, falling to a 2-0 loss at home to Benfica. That result left the Bianconeri in 20th place in the table, which means that Milan are one of the two teams they could face in the next round.

As well as the Rossoneri, Juventus could also be matched up against PSV in the next round.
