Alisson has only just returned to action for Liverpool following a fitness issue that forced him to miss the Champions League last-16 first leg defeat to Galatasaray last week.

The 33-year-old was back in goal five days later as the Reds were held to a 1-1 draw by Tottenham and kept his place for the 4-0 second leg win over the Turkish side on Wednesday night.

However, Alisson is set to be left out of the Liverpool matchday squad for the crucial Premier League showdown against Brighton having withdrawn from international with Brazil due to injury.

A statement from the Brazilian Football Confederation reads: “Goalkeeper Hugo Souza is called up to the Brazilian National Team.

“He will replace Alisson, who is sidelined due to injury.”

It is not known yet whether Alisson will be available for Liverpool’s first game after the international break which is away at Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Discussing his side’s trip to Brighton, Arne Slot has revealed that the Reds will also be without Mohamed Salah as they seek a win that would move them, temporarily at least, up to fourth in the Premier League table.

“It is unusual [that Salah is injured], as a result of that I think you expect the outcome, so not available for tomorrow,” Slot told reporters on Friday.

“The good thing for Liverpool is that we go to an international break. The bad thing for Egypt is that he can't go there.

“We are hoping with what Mo has shown in the past that he can recover faster than other players might in similar situations.

“He takes such good care of his body and history has shown he can be back earlier than others. Bu it’s only two weeks until we go again, so let’s hope in that period of time he can be back.”
