With Ismael Saibari, FC Bayern has secured one of the most impressive attacking players of recent months. The Moroccan national team player impressed not only at PSV Eindhoven but also on the big stage of the World Cup. But how does the 25-year-old actually fit into Vincent Kompany’s system?
By now, following his strong performances at the World Cup, it should be clear to every Bayern fan why the Munich club was willing to invest up to 55 million euros in the attacking player. Saibari combines technical skill with dynamism, goal-scoring ability, and remarkable tactical flexibility—qualities that fit perfectly with FC Bayern’s requirements.
On top of that, club officials had already laid the groundwork for the transfer before the World Cup even began. While Saibari continued to boost his market value with strong performances, the Munich club had long since secured a promising position in the negotiations.
The raw numbers speak for themselves. Over the past two seasons, Saibari recorded 57 goal contributions in 81 competitive matches while playing for PSV Eindhoven. In the past season alone, the Moroccan scored 19 goals and set up nine more.
He also continued his strong form at the World Cup. With three goals in the group stage and the decisive penalty kick in the round of 32, he was one of the standout players on the Moroccan national team.
His versatility is particularly valuable. While Saibari feels most comfortable in the number 10 position, he can also be deployed as a deep-lying forward, an attacking midfielder, or on either wing. It is precisely this flexibility that opens up additional options for Vincent Kompany.
His playing style is particularly interesting. Much like Harry Kane, Saibari regularly drops between the lines, actively participates in build-up play, and links the midfield with the attack.
At the same time, the Moroccan approaches this role with significantly more dynamism. He cuts out wide more often, seeks out one-on-one situations, and repeatedly bursts into the penalty area with pace.
Given the heavy workload on Kane, Saibari could therefore play an important role. Although he is not a classic center forward, his movement patterns allow Kompany to make the offensive play more versatile and relieve Kane at times.

Despite all his strengths, Saibari still has room for improvement as he arrives in Munich. His pass completion rate of 84 percent and a tackle success rate of 46 percent were recently below the level of many Bayern players.
Especially in the more intense day-to-day grind of the Bundesliga, the 25-year-old will likely have to learn to play with even greater precision and consistency under increased pressure. His finishing also leaves room for improvement. Although he regularly took shots on goal in the Eredivisie, he converted only about one in five of his attempts.
His strengths, however, are an excellent fit for the Bayern coach’s style of play. Saibari consistently seeks out the path to the goal, actively participates in pressing, and can be deployed in multiple positions. With an average of 3.4 shots on goal per 90 minutes, he is on a similar level to Michael Olise or Jamal Musiala.
Modern performance metrics also underscore his impact. Last season, Saibari was involved in 218 penalty-area actions and was among the most productive offensive players in the Eredivisie. Particularly noteworthy: data analyses place his playing profile in the same category as Michael Olise and Florian Wirtz, among others—two players who combine creativity, dynamism, and goal-scoring threat at the highest level.
It is precisely this combination that likely tipped the scales. With Saibari, FC Bayern has not signed a classic winger or playmaker, but rather an offensive all-rounder who can fill multiple roles at the highest level. If he successfully makes the transition from the Eredivisie to the Bundesliga, the transfer could soon prove to be one of the most exciting deals of recent years for the Munich club.
