While Romagnoli was expected in Doha at the start of July, a series of hurdles have delayed his arrival, from the managerial change to the former Emir of Qatar’s death.

A recent report also pointed out that the Qatari league has imposed new rules on foreign players, limiting their numbers to five on the pitch for each team. This development reportedly prompted Al-Sadd to reconsider the Romagnoli deal.

Lazio & Romagnoli to Consider a Contract Termination

According to Il Messaggero, Romagnoli’s transfer to the Middle East could falter once again, leaving the defender and Lazio in an awkward situation given their strained relationship and broken promises. The Roman had already bid the supporters farewell in a video broadcast during the large anti-Lotito demonstration organized by the fanbase earlier this month.

The two parties have reached a point of no return, so the former AC Milan captain is unlikely to be reinstated into Gennaro Gattuso’s squad. Therefore, the Roman newspaper believes the player could be summoned to Formello to discuss a contract termination. In this case, Lazio would miss out on a transfer fee, but they would at least save circa €5.5 million, which represents the player’s gross salary for the remaining year on his contract.
