Liverpool’s goalkeeping situation is one of the biggest dilemmas currently facing the hierarchy at Anfield.

Alisson Becker is the club’s undisputed number one but the Brazilian is currently out injured, something that has become a regular occurrence in recent seasons.

Giorgi Mamardashvili joined the Reds in the summer after agreeing the move a year earlier, but the Georgian has struggled to make a lasting impact on most of the 18 matches he has played this season.

The 25-year-old also now finds himself side-lined by injury after being stretchered off against Everton on Sunday afternoon.

Liverpool may need to reassess their options in goal this summer, and there is one man who should be top of their list if they choose to make a change.

Liverpool should look to make James Trafford move this summer

Since making the move from Burnley back to Manchester City last summer, things haven’t gone to plan for James Trafford.

The Englishman has found himself playing second fiddle to Gianluigi Donnarumma, who signed for the Cityzens just weeks after Trafford made the move.

Having publicly voiced his discontent at the situation, it is now being widely reported that Trafford could look to move on from the Etihad this summer as he looks to re-establish himself as a first-choice in the Premier League.

There is reportedly plenty of interest in Liverpool’s own first choice, Alisson, who could well be sold this summer.

If Alisson does leave Anfield, the Reds should make Trafford one of their top priorities this summer.

Although he has only featured 14 times for City this season, Trafford has kept seven clean sheets, and the 23-year-old managed 23 clean sheets in 45 games for Burnley in the Championship last season.

In his 18 games for Liverpool, Mamardashvili has only kept four clean sheets, and opting to keep the Georgian as the backup whilst bringing Trafford in to play first-choice would be smart business for Richard Hughes.

Manchester City would likely want to recoup most if not all of the £27 million they paid for the Englishman last summer, but that is a price Liverpool should be willing to pay if they do need to replace Alisson this summer.
