As explained by Milan News, the actual reason for the prohibition was not entirely clear, but was somehow tied to the investigation ‘Doppia Curva’ that led to the conviction of 16 ultras members of Inter and Milan suspected of doing illicit business inside and outside the stadium on behalf of Mafia families.

The banner ‘Sodalizio’ already appeared in previous home games against Napoli and Fiorentina, but public authorities decided to ban it for the derby clash.

Therefore, Milan ultras eluded the ban by recreating the same word by using their phone lights.

The Rossoneri ultras had announced before the match that they would not create any choreography but would still support the team with chants.
