Kaveh Solhekol was on Sky Sports this week talking about Chelsea’s win over Liverpool on Saturday and how important it was given we’re going into a two week international break now.

There was a lot of negativity building up, an it’s now been washed away.

“If Chelsea had lost to Liverpool, the vacuum of the next two weeks would have been filled with debates about Maresca, transfers, injuries and the Club World Cup.

“As it is, Maresca – and the players who are not on international duty – can enjoy a few days off. And the same goes for the overworked reporters who cover the club that never sleeps.”

Well, it’s very nice of him to think of us – unfortunately we cover the club whether or not there are games going on. We’d actually rather there were games to write about, rather than having to write a fortnight of transfer speculation and international highlights, but that’s just us…

Chelsea must use two week break well

The important thing is that Chelsea are getting two weeks off. It’s not just about time for the injured players to return. It’s also about the overworked players who have been playing in place of the injured stars getting a rest.

Of course some of them will be off playing with their countries – but at least some like Reece James, Joao Pedro and Andrey Santos are getting a break. Moises Caicedo has played every minute of every game so far, and at least is banned for one of Ecuador’s two games.

This is an important period for the staff to get two further weeks of training in to try and normalise the team physically, mentally and tactically after a disrupted summer. Let’s hope they use it well.
