An explanation for the absence of Trent Alexander-Arnold from Real Madrid’s starting XI to face Atlético has come to the fore online.

This of course comes ahead of kick-off in the fast-approaching Madrid Derby.

Alexander-Arnold spent recent weeks establishing himself as a key member of the defensive ranks at Real Madrid, winning favour under the watch of new boss Álvaro Arbeloa.

It therefore came as a major surprise when, on Sunday evening, the Englishman was nowhere to be seen in Los Blancos’ line-up to face city rivals Atlético.

Instead, Arbeloa has opted for the experienced Dani Carvajal.

And this call, it has since been revealed, did not come owing to tactical nor sporting reasons.

As per a report from Marca:

‘It all stems from the English full-back arriving late to one of the final training sessions of the week.’

A further setback in an already difficult week for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was also left out of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the March international break.
