Wolves visit Maidenhead United on Wednesday, marking Cesar Peixoto’s first match in English football and a landmark friendly for the hosts.

As reported by ExpressAndStar.com, the trip stems from the £40 million move that took Max Kilman from Molineux to West Ham two years ago.

Maidenhead had inserted a sell-on clause when Kilman joined Wolves for £40,000 in 2018. The National League South club were initially due 20 per cent of the profit, but waived half to help the deal proceed, and secured a commitment from Wolves to play a friendly.

Maidenhead are believed to have received around £4m, which ranked as the largest sell-on fee ever earned by a non-league side. It continues to have a major impact.

Chief executive Jon Adams said the funds have secured the club for years and aided a transition period, with wider plans including talks over a potential ground move. The need to modernise sits alongside an ambition to one day challenge for the Football League.

Formed in 1870, Maidenhead were among 15 entrants to the first FA Cup. York Road, opened in 1871, is recognised as the oldest senior ground used continuously by the same club.

Wednesday’s game is expected to boost revenues, with a crowd of more than 2,000, including around 1,000 travelling Wolves fans, above a typical league gate. Tickets remain on sale at £14 for adults. Adams expressed gratitude to Wolves for honouring the agreement and said arranging the fixture had been straightforward.
