Wolves' trip to Maidenhead United on Wednesday, Cesar Peixoto's first match in English football, stems from Max Kilman's £40 million move to West Ham two years ago, and is a major occasion for the non-league hosts.

"It was part of a commitment from Wolves, which we really appreciate," Jon Adams said. He was speaking to ExpressAndStar.com.

The National League South club had a sell-on clause from Kilman's 2018 move to Wolves for £40,000. They were due 20 per cent of the profit, then waived half to help the transfer, and Wolves agreed to a friendly.

Their windfall, believed to be around £4 million, is regarded as the biggest sell-on fee ever received by a non-league club. Formed in 1870, Maidenhead were FA Cup pioneers, and York Road is recognised as the oldest senior football ground used continuously by the same club.

The club are in talks over a new home, and see the money as vital in a transitional period. Adams said it has secured their future for a number of years and will support wider plans, with a focus on sustainability.

More than 2,000 are expected, including around 1,000 Wolves fans, with adult tickets £14. "We are really grateful to Wolves for following through with this," Adams said.
