England head coach Sarina Wiegman has handed Aston Villa goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck a long-awaited recall.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official media update from The Football Association this morning.

The 26-year-old has been drafted into the England squad following Manchester City keeper Khiara Keating’s withdrawal with a minor groin injury.

Roebuck has been capped by the Lionesses on 11 occasions and won both UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 and the inaugural Women’s Finalissima with her country.

The keeper was last capped by England in 2023 and has long been absent from the squad. Roebuck has battled back from various challenges including serious illness to earn another chance to impress England head coach Wiegman.

England continue their four-game ‘Homecoming Series’ with an international friendly against China PR at a sold-out Wembley Stadium this evening. It has been reported that Roebuck will not be available for selection for that match.

Roebuck will make her return to the England squad on Tuesday night when the Lionesses face Ghana at St Mary’s Stadium.

England’s ‘Homecoming Series’ provides the team with the opportunity to celebrate their UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 success on home soil whilst testing themselves against opponents from four different continents.

The Lionesses begin FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027 qualifying in early 2026.
