Max Eberl confirms talks to keep the French defender as Reds eye defensive reinforcements

Will Bayern Munich manage to keep their star as Liverpool prepare a summer swoop?
Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has confirmed the club’s intention to extend Dayot Upamecano’s contract amid growing speculation linking the French centre-back with potential move to Liverpool.
Upamecano’s current deal expires next summer and reports in Germany suggest that Bayern face stiff competition to keep hold of the 27 year old who has been key figure in Vincent Kompany’s defensive setup this season.
Speaking to Sky Germany, Eberl said:
"Upamecano has developed into one of the best central defenders in the world. Of course he went through period where he made some mistakes but we’re working hard to offer him new contract. It’s priority for us"
Liverpool’s interest comes as Ibrahima Konat|e approaches the final six months of his contract at Anfield. Manager Arne Slot & sporting director Richard Hughes are reportedly monitoring options to reinforce their backline, with Upamecano considered prime candidate due to his athleticism and ball-playing ability.
The Reds had already failed to land Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace in the summer while Giovanni Leone’s knee injury has left the squad short of depth in central defence.
Upamecano a former RB Leipzig standout has started every league match for Bayern this season helping the defending champions remain within touching distance of the Bundesliga summit.
