Claims in Germany that an agreement in principle has been reached between Eintracht Frankfurt and Will Osula, for the striker to move to the Bundesliga in January.
Sky Sports in Germany saying that their information is that the German club want to get the Danish forward on an initial loan deal, with an option to buy of around €20m (approx £17.5m).
The report claiming that Eintracht Frankfurt are willing to pay €3m (approx £2.6m) for the loan period to the end of the season.
It all sounds a little dubious to me.
Will Osula has been struggling with an ankle injury for most of this season,, Eddie Howe saying that it was preventing him joining in fully with training.
That escalated when after the striker played the second half at West Ham, the NUFC Head Coach then said that enough was enough and he was no longer including Will Osula in his matchday squads so that they could try and get the injury issue sorted.
The last month and five games have seen the 22 year old not included in the matchday squads and no signs of that changing any time soon.
Will Osula actually played in 14 of the opening 15 matches of the season, although only two were in the starting eleven.
However, a decent amount of involvement, especially considering his ongoing ankle issues, with Osula scoring three goals and getting one assist.
When out of the blue it was reported on deadline day of the summer transfer window that Will Osula could be on his way in a near £30m sale to Eintracht Frankfurt, I think fair to say many fans could understood why Newcastle United might find that a tempting proposition. A young promising but largely unproven striker and if a sale price of close to £30m would be paid, that meaning an attractive boost to the PSR flex Newcastle United would have in terms of pursuing their own transfer targets.
However, that late bid in the window was reported to have failed, as at the last minute the Bundesliga club wanted to change it to a loan deal instead.
Whilst the signs are increasingly positive that Yoane Wissa could be available sometime this month, for Newcastle United to allow Will Osula to leave on a loan deal in January, sounds very dubious, especially if the club are still competing on three or four fronts.
For any deal to potentially happen, Will Osula would have to get fully fit and injury free. However, if Newcastle United did manage to get the young striker back fully fit, why then would they let him go out just on loan mid-season?
Newcastle United paid a reported £10m to Sheffield United, plus £5m in potential future add-ons. To buy him in that kind of £15m deal and then allow a lean deal for £2.6m with then an option for Eintracht Frankfurt to then have an option on deciding whether or not to buy him for £17.5m, sounds a lot less attractive than when we heard Will Osula could be sold for almost £30m.
With less than a month to go until the transfer window opens, prepare for many more media claims of what will allegedly happen. Spotting the credible media claims is always the biggest challenge…
