Maxence Lacroix has received his first France call-up to replace William Saliba, who has withdrawn with ankle problems.
According to L'Équipe, the 25-year-old Crystal Palace centre-back was drafted in on Sunday evening, with Saliba troubled particularly by his left ankle.
The Sochaux academy graduate had said in late November that a call from Didier Deschamps was his dream.
Lacroix has represented France at under-16, under-17, under-18 and under-20 level, but never for the under-21s.
He has played 43 matches in all competitions this season.
France face Brazil on 26 March and Colombia on 29 March in friendlies in the United States.
