Newcastle United want to sign Brentford striker Yoane Wissa this summer, even though his club does not want him to move to St. James’ Park.
Per Craig Hope of the Daily Mail, Wissa’s reps are in London today to accelerate a deal for the Magpies to sign the DR Congo international.
Newcastle have been trying to get a deal for Wissa over the line, but Brentford refused to budge.
However, with Brentford closing in on a replacement, they are more open to allowing the transfer to Newcastle.
Wissa scored 20 goals and provided five assists in 35 appearances last term, taking the mantle from Ivan Toney and delivering the goods, catching the eyes of Premier League clubs, including Newcastle.
Wissa will replace Newcastle hitman Alexander Isak. The Swede is seemingly on his way out of the Tyneside outfit, and Wissa is expected to step up to the plate.
Still, Newcastle will need another striker in the ranks, and reports have linked the League Cup champions to names like Nicolas Jackson and Randal Kolo Muani.
As derided as he is, Jackson would be the better pick for Newcastle thanks to his well-rounded game.
The Senegalese forward misses big chances, but his link-up play, ability under pressure, and drive to get in behind defences make him an absolute gem.
Jackson also has Premier League experience. His ability to keep cracking and relentless pressing means he is the perfect fit for Eddie Howe’s football.
Kolo Muani is a fine striker and will likely come cheaper, but Jackson’s remarkable upside and superior all-round game cannot go overlooked.
Besides being a young striker, he is also an excellent creator for his teammates.
He formed a heralded partnership with Cole Palmer and would do the same with others around him at Newcastle.
Jackson improves those around him, and Newcastle will be better served swooping for his services.
