It remains unclear what the future holds for Max Eberl beyond this summer. FC Bayern’s sporting director must deliver during the transfer window; otherwise, his tenure could come to an end. In Munich, the club is preparing for all possible scenarios.
A supervisory board meeting in August is expected to ultimately determine the outcome. That’s when the summer transfer window will be scrutinized once again. How did Eberl perform? What does the roster look like? And which targets were met?
Eberl knows the pressure is on. And he can handle it. Nevertheless, the uncertainty is something that has loomed over the entire summer.
The sporting director has supporters at FC Bayern, but also a few critics. And should it become clear during or before the meeting that things cannot continue with Eberl, there is already a Plan B.
According to SportBILD reporter Christian Falk, should Eberl be ousted, Bayern could resort to a lightning-fast promotion of Bernhard Seonbuchner, who was only recently hired.

Seonbuchner recently joined Bayern from the Red Bull Academy in Salzburg and is set to serve as head of player and coach development and transitions at the club’s campus. However, should Eberl leave the club, a dual promotion is possible.
Christoph Freund would then be an option for Eberl’s position, while Seonbuchner could take over the role of sporting director, which Freund currently holds.
For now, though, that’s still a long way off. Eberl still has plenty of time to win over the critics within the club and convince them of his work. There have already been several contract extensions recently, and the transfer of Ismael Saibari—which ended up being slightly cheaper than expected—also speaks in his favor.
