With Pedrinho back and a head coach in place, Vasco have stepped up plans to reinforce a side 17th in the Brasileirão. Work continued while the president was out of SAF control, but talks stalled and deals were not completed.
Immediate priorities are a midfielder and a winger, plus a centre-back and a centre-forward. “If we had accelerated the processes, we would have had the possibility of a mid-year cash injection to invest in football,” said Pedrinho last month, speaking to Atenção, Vascaínos. The club await Marcos Lamacchia as new SAF investor.
Nelson Deossa is a primary target. During Pedrinho’s absence, Admar Lopes struck a verbal agreement with Real Betis and the player, but Betis lacked the financial and legal guarantees it wanted amid uncertainty around the SAF. Vasco are reviving talks, their bid remains unmatched, and Deossa is keen. He shone for Monterrey at last year’s Club World Cup, but has not kicked on at Betis, who need sales this summer.
Vasco are also tracking wingers. Marino Hinestroza arrived early this year but has not replaced Rayan as hoped, and with Nuno Moreira’s dip in form the flank is a priority this window.
Centre-back and centre-forward have also been flagged. The defence has suffered with individual errors, and the attack has yet to click, with Spinelli and Brenner failing to convince.
