Wolfsburg in advanced negotiations to acquire Lyon fullback Saël Kumbedi | OneFootball

Kicker currently confirms a report originating with Footmercato concerning VfL Wolfsburg’s interest in right back Saël Kumbedi. The 20-year-old could be on the verge of a move to the Bundesliga as Wolfsburg’s negotiations with Olympique Lyon are at an “advanced stage“. Wolfsburg hope to purchase Kumbedi for a fee totaling around €9m including bonuses.

Wolfsburg’s summer-long search for a new right back has led to several busted transfers. The northern Autostädter found themselves unable to conclude deals for either Zakaria El Ouahdi or Andrei Rațiu due to cost issues. Head coach Paul Simonis’ squad remains in dire need of a new right-back, with Kilian Fischer currently the only fully-trained player available to fill the position.

Wolfsburg were still able to get their Bundesliga campaign off to a winning start over the weekend, defeating FC Heidenheim 1-3 away at the Voith Arena. Kumbedi remained on the bench for the full 90 minutes during Lyon’s Ligue 1 defeat of Metz on Saturday night. Kicker notes that the German VWers haven’t yet decided whether or not to schedule a medical for their target.
