Kicker reports that VfL Wolfsburg are getting serious about acquiring West Ham striker Niclas Füllkrug on loan. Wolfsburg have been actively courting the 32-year-old for some time. Füllkrug has still not scored a goal for his Premier League outfit this season. If the 24-times-capped German international wishes to retain his hopes of representing Germany at the World Cup, a change of scenery is probably for the best.
Füllkrug is a native of the German federal state of Lower Saxony. The Hannover native would presumably feel right at home in Wolfsburg. The Autostädter find themselves in dire need of a boost. With just two wins through 12 matchdays, Germany’s green company team sit in 15th place in the table. The club finds itself without both a permanent head coach and a sporting director following the sackings of Paul Simonis and Sebastian Schindzielorz.
Current VfL managing director Peter Christiansen has been attempting to install a sporting director, yet has been turned down by candidates such as Andreas Schicker and Marcus Mann. Something speaking against the Füllkrug deal may be the fact that – as potentially good a fit as it is – the former Werder Bremen striker may not be all that interested in joining such a disorganized outfit.
