Wolves have cancelled their pre-season trip to Heerenveen and will instead host Racing Santander at Molineux on Saturday, August 1, at 5pm. The original plan did not include a home friendly.

The club said the fixture in the Netherlands was scrapped because the local authority imposed unreasonable restrictions on travelling supporters.

Fans were told to use organised coaches from Amsterdam regardless of where they were staying, as the authority did not want Wolves supporters staying in the town. Tickets were only for those on those coaches, with a cap of 650.

Citing safety and operational concerns, the game was cancelled after the authority refused to relax its stance.

The cancellation will disappoint travellers, and Heerenveen’s cooperation throughout has been acknowledged. The replacement is intended to provide a strong final test before the new Championship season.

Supporters with non-refundable bookings are encouraged to contact Fan Services. Ticket information for the Molineux friendly will follow.

Racing Santander were promoted from La Liga 2 in May, lifting the title, as they prepare for the top flight.

Cesar Peixoto’s squad return to Compton next week before a Portugal camp, then visit Maidenhead United on Wednesday, July 22 and face Real Sociedad at Walsall’s Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium on Saturday, July 25.

They go to Doncaster on Wednesday, July 29 before that final Molineux friendly, then start with a Carabao Cup first round tie at home to Port Vale.
