The club moved supporters in the same area, located toward the front of the stand close to the Graham Hughes Stand, to another part of the ground at half-time as a precaution. An area of 200 empty seats was visible during the second half.

The supporter sustained only minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment after being tended to inside the ground.

Nordi Mukiele put the visitors ahead early on, before Sunderland defender Dan Ballard was sent off in the 24th minute for pulling the hair of Wolves striker Tolu Arokodare. Santiago Bueno equalised after the break but the already relegated hosts could not find a winner. Wolves were booed off at full-time.
