Wolves have sacked head coach Rob Edwards and are set to appoint Cesar Peixoto as his replacement, ExpressAndStar.com reports.

Edwards was informed on Thursday morning, despite the club announcing the signings of Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez this week.

He was told over the phone while abroad on holiday. The 43-year-old had been working on summer recruitment and was not expecting the decision.

Peixoto currently manages Portuguese side Gil Vicente. The 46-year-old has only worked within Portugal’s league system.

Edwards played a central role in landing Trippier, and the defender pointed to the coach’s passion as a reason for joining.

Peixoto is represented by Jorge Mendes’ Gestifute agency, which has a close relationship with Wolves owners Fosun.
