Football League World reports that Wolverhampton Wanderers are targeting former Sunderland captain Dan Neil as part of a summer rebuild after relegation to the Championship.
The 24-year-old midfielder is set to leave Sunderland on a free when his contract expires at the end of the season. An academy graduate, he made 201 appearances for the Black Cats and was central to successive promotions from League One to the Premier League.
Game time was scarce following Sunderland’s top-flight return. Neil played only three Premier League matches under Régis Le Bris, then joined Ipswich Town on loan in January.
He has since featured regularly for Ipswich, making 13 appearances as they chase promotion to the Premier League.
Sunderland have confirmed Neil will depart this summer, ending a long association that began in their academy. Wolves are expected to reshape their midfield for the Championship and view him as a cost-effective option with proven experience at that level.
Whether Ipswich pursue a permanent deal remains unclear, with interest building ahead of a key summer for the midfielder.
