Wolves are unbeaten in four meetings with Tottenham, their longest such streak since 1974, seeking three successive victories over Spurs at Molineux for the first time since 1969.
Tottenham Hotspur's season is still alive, just about. On Thursday night, Spurs held Eintracht Frankfurt to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final. The German visitors broke the deadlock inside six minutes, only for Pedro Porro to hit-back with an impudent back-healed flick soon after. Die Adler goalkeeper Kauã Santos was in inspired form, denying the Lilywhites a crucial go-ahead goal, as it ended all square in North London. Thus, if Ange Postecoglou's side are going to salvage this season, they'll have to go to Waldstadion and win next Thursday, which won't be easy.
Meanwhile, back in the Premier League, Tottenham's season is done, languishing down in 14th, 11 points adrift the final European spot. Brennan Johnson's double did at least see them down rock-bottom Southampton last Sunday, ending a four-match winless streak, but this was only their fourth win in 15. Thus, the Spurs supporters traveling to the Black Country on Sunday will certainly do so with a sense of trepidation.
Wolverhampton Wanderers meanwhile will be buoyant having, to all intents and purposes, secured their Premier League survival last weekend. Wolves fought back from a goal down to beat Ipswich 2-1 at Portman Road, thanks to quick-fire late goals from Pablo Sarabia and then Jørgen Strand Larsen.
That actually made it three successive Premier League victories for Vítor Pereira's team, following wins over Southampton and West Ham, the first time the Old Gold have achieved this since December 2023. As a result, Wolves are now 12 points clear of the relegation zone, with only 21 points left to play for, thereby all but assured of survival. So now, can the Wanderers beat Tottenham at Molineux, as they did both last season and the season before?
Yerson Mosquera, Enso González and Saša Kalajdžić remain sidelined long-term, but Matheus Cunha is back, able to feature for the first time since 1 March, having served his four-match suspension.
However, in his absence, Vítor Pereira believes his side play better as a team, and Jørgen Strand Larsen has been in red-hot form, so will the Brazilian be thrown straight back into the lineup? That question mark aside, an unchanged lineup is forecast.
Wolverhampton Wanderers predicted lineup vs Tottenham Hotspur: (3-4-3): José Sá; Doherty, Agbadou, Toti; Semedo, André, João Gomes, Aït-Nouri; Munetsi, Cunha, Strand Larsen.
As alluded to, Jørgen Strand Larsen has really come to the fore in Cunha's absence, scoring four times across Wolves' last three games, taking his tally to 11 for the season.
Considering how pivotal Thursday's trip to Frankfurt is, Ange Postecoglou will surely heavily rotate. Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, who've only recent returned to fitness, are unlikely to be risked, so Ben Davies and Archie Gray could rekindle their partnership, with back-up centre-backs Radu Drăgușin and Kevin Danso both sidelined.
Meantime, Djed Spence, Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr, Wilson Odobert and Mathys Tel are also likely candidates to come in, the former replacing Destiny Udogie, who hobbled off injured late on in mid-week. Lastly, Richarlison was introduced as a late substitute against Eintracht, his first appearance since 6 February due to a calf injury.
Tottenham Hotspur predicted lineup vs Wolverhampton Wanderers: (4-3-3): Vicario; Porro, Gray, Davies, Spence; Matar Sarr, Bissouma, Odobert, Maddison, Odobert, Tel.
Mathys Tel is yet to impress since arriving from Bayern Munich, scoring just his second goal for Spurs from the penalty spot against Southampton last Sunday. Despite having not started any of their last three matches, the Frenchman could be in the lineup this time, seeking to stake a claim.
Considering Spurs are expected to put out a heavily rotated lineup, we are forecasting a Wolves win at Molineux, which would be Tottenham's 17th defeat of the season.. and counting: Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur.
