World Cup 2026 qualifiers: Colombia faces Bolivia looking to secure qualification

Colombia hosts Bolivia this Thursday at the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Melendez for the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. James Rodríguez and his teammates are in a strong position to secure their ticket to the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Currently 6th in the standings with 22 points, Colombia holds the last direct qualifying spot, just ahead of Venezuela (18 points) and Bolivia (17 points). A home victory would allow Nestor Lorenzo and his squad to reach 25 points, making their final match against Venezuela merely symbolic.

Another scenario is simply matching Venezuela’s result against Argentina: if the Venezuelans fail to close the gap, Colombia would seal qualification without relying on any other outcome. However, the pressure is still on. Colombia is winless in its last six matches, with three defeats and three draws, and needs to get back on track to avoid a complicated situation in their away game against Venezuela.
