Roberto Martínez has named a 27-player Portugal squad for the 2026 World Cup, with Benfica starter Tomás Araújo included.

According to Glorioso 1904, the announcement was made on Tuesday, 19 May, confirming the defender among those heading to the finals.

António Silva, who has a proposal from Benfica, was omitted from the list, a surprise at Cidade do Futebol. Araújo, who wears 44 at Benfica, will now join the national camp, with preparations due to begin in the coming days.

Martínez also selected others with Benfica ties, namely Rúben Dias, Nélson Semedo, João Neves, Bernardo Silva, João Félix, Gonçalo Guedes and Gonçalo Ramos.

The tournament will mark World Cup debuts for several Portuguese players, including Araújo and João Neves.

World Cup 2026 runs from 11 June to 19 July in the United States, Canada and Mexico. It is the first edition with 48 teams, 12 groups and 104 matches. Portugal are in Group K with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uzbekistan and Colombia.
