Six more fixtures as expanded group stage draws to a close

The World Cup action rolls on as we get to the business end of the group stage.

There will be plenty of hurt and anxiety amongst the Tartan Army after Scotland’s 3-0 defeat by Brazil last night as them nervously waiting to see if they progress into the knockout stages as one of the top eight third-placed sides in the competition.

South Africa shocked everyone as they secured their place in the round of 32, beating South Korea 1-0 overnight, while Mexico swept Czechia aside to take nine points from nine in their home tournament.

Day 15 brings some intruging ties, as Group E reaches its conclusion. Germany are already through and take on Ecuador, while minnows Curacao face Ivory Coast, who are still reeling from their late defeat by the Germans in Toronto, Ontario.

Into the night, the Netherlands are hoping to top Group F against Tunisia, while Japan take on Sweden, with Graham Potter eyeing a place in the knockouts.

Later on, Paraguay take on surprise package Australia, who were dealt a blow by the United States, and Mauricio Pochettino’s co-hosts round off their Group D campaign against already-eliminated Turkey.

How to watch World Cup today

In the UK, Germany vs Ecuador is being shown live and free-to-air on BBC One, with coverage beginning at 8.30pm BST ahead of a 9pm kick-off.

It’s then over to BBC Two for Curacao vs Ivory Coast, where the programme gets underway at 8.50pm for a 9pm kick-off.

Tunisia vs the Netherlands is being shown live on BBC Two, with coverage commencing at 11.50pm before kick-off at midnight, while Japan vs Sweden is over on BBC One with coverage starting at 11.50pm ahead of kick-off at 12am.

ITV 4 is the place for Paraguay vs Australia, with kick-off at 3am in the early hours of Friday morning. The coverage starts at 2.30am.

Turkey vs the United States starts at 2.30am on ITV1 ahead of kick-off at 3am.
