World Cup: Irankunda and Metcalfe guide Australia to superb victory over Turkey

Nestory Irankunda and Connor Metcalfe scored brilliant goals in their World Cup debut as Australia secured a surprise win over Turkey. Vincenzo Montella's side failed to convert their chances as Turkey’s first World Cup game since the 1998 third-placed playoff ended in a heartbreak.
Former FC Bayern youngster Irankunda opened the scoring with a brilliant finish in the first-half. Watford's winger became the youngster Aussie scorer at this stage, and he celebrated his goal with a testimony to Tim Cahill.
Patrick Beach had a brilliant game for Australia between the sticks as Tony Popovic's decision to pick the youngster in place of Mathew Ryan produced the desired effect. The Socceroos sealed their win with Metcalfe's excellent finish fifteen minutes before time.
The 26-year-old midfielder had a brilliant game after a difficult campaign with St. Pauli. His club captain Jackson Irvine was a surprise omission from the lineup as he only came on for the final few minutes.
Similarly, Salih Özcan was a late substitute for Turkey, while Can Uzun and Ozan Kabak didn't get a chance. Australia will face co-hosts USA in their next game as Turkey and Paraguay lock horns to revive their hopes.
