Wolfsburg’s center-back Jonas Adjetey is in the starting lineup for Ghana’s opening fixture at the 2026 World Cup against Panama. The Black Stars were knocked out of the group stage twice since missing out on a semi-final appearance in the cruelest of ways in 2010.

Panama lost all three games on their World Cup debut in 2018. Former Arminia Bielefeld defender Andrés Andrade starts for Thomas Christiansen’s side. The 27-year-old was part of LASK Linz’s historic team as they won the double in Austria for the club’s first major titles since 1965.

Meanwhile, Abdul Rahman Baba, who has played for Schalke, Greuther Fürth and Augsburg in a journeyman career, is part of Ghana’s squad. Mainz’s new signing Ransford Königsdörffer and Union Berlin’s winger Derrick Köhn were not selected for the tournament by Carlos Queiroz, who ties Bora Milutinović by coaching in five successive competitions.
