The United States men’s national team is facing injury concerns for two key players with just weeks remaining before the 2026 World Cup starts.
Forward Brenden Aaronson and defender Chris Richards picked up injuries while playing for their respective clubs in the Premier League.
Aaronson appeared to suffer a left knee issue during Sunday’s 1-0 win against Brighton & Hove Albion.
The 25-year-old dropped to the ground holding his knee before receiving medical treatment.
He walked off the field gingerly to be replaced by Lukas Nmecha in the 59th minute of the game.
In another injury concern for USMNT manager Mauricio Pochettino, centre-back Richards twisted his ankle after colliding with Brentford striker Igor Thiago in Sunday’s away encounter.
The 26-year-old was able to continue the game that finished 2-2 at the Gtech Community Stadium. But he struggled to walk off the ground by himself after full time.
The good news for USMNT is that the injuries to Aaronson and Richards are not thought to be too serious and the two are expected to recover soon.
The Yanks are set to announce its 26-player roster for the World Cup on Tuesday, May 26.
Pochettino’s side will play friendlies with Senegal and Germany before their World Cup opener against Paraguay on June 12.
Their next two Group D opponents will be Australia and Turkiye.
