Bayern’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß was particularly outspoken, with the 74-year-old finding clear words for the referee’s performance after the match. „That’s the worst performance by a refereeing team that I’ve ever seen in a Bundesliga match,“ the Bayern patriarch scolded , according to BILD

Yellow-red card against Diaz causes discussion

The yellow card against Luis Diaz in the closing stages was at the heart of the discussions. In the 84th minute, the attacking player, who had already been cautioned, went to ground in a duel with Leverkusen goalkeeper Blaswich after he had put the ball past the keeper

Referee Dingert ruled the incident a foul and showed the Colombian a second yellow card, meaning Diaz had to leave the pitch early

Particularly explosive: the video assistant was not allowed to intervene in this situation. Yellow-red cards can only be reviewed after consultation with the VAR from next season

After the game, Max Eberl also confirmed that Dingert now takes a critical view of his decision. The Bayern sporting director explained: „I’ve just spoken to Dingert, everything was fine, it was a good dialogue. He also said that the yellow card is not a yellow-red card. It was clear to him that it was a foul, but he’s now seen the pictures and says: it wasn’t a yellow-red card.“

Two Bayern goals disallowed

Two disallowed goals by Munich also caused discussion, with Dingert deciding both were handball after a VAR review

Both Jonathan Tah and Harry Kane received the ball on the arm immediately before a goal was scored. While the situation with Tah was relatively clear, the scene with Kane left room for interpretation. The striker turned away and received the ball on his elbow

There was additional trouble on the touchline: coach Vincent Kompany also saw a yellow card for excessive complaining

However, the dismissal of Nicolas Jackson in the 41st minute remained uncontroversial: the attacker was clearly too late against Terrier and hit his opponent on the ankle

In sporting terms, the two teams ended up drawing 1-1. Aleix Garcia had given Leverkusen an early lead before Luis Diaz equalized in the 69th minute.
