Wrexham are monitoring Sheffield Wednesday defender Yan Valery, who has previously criticised the turmoil at his club.
The Sheffield Star reports that the Tunisia international, capable across defence and midfield, is among Wednesday’s most saleable players as administrators seek funds before the window closes. Interest is said to be building, with Wrexham and Rangers weighing up moves before the deadline.
Wrexham were among several sides to track Valery last summer amid contract and finance uncertainty. The 26-year-old has passed 20 appearances this season despite injury issues and time away at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Wednesday entered administration in October and received a 12-point deduction. A further 6-point penalty for historical financial breaches followed in December, leaving them adrift in the Championship.
"As a French person, I don't understand this rule because you're punishing players for something that we didn't do as a club. It's not our fault and it's killing us. But that's how it is in England and you have to take it. Maybe in France it's the same but I've never seen it." He told the Yorkshire Post at the time.
With offers being entertained and a relegation fight looming, Valery’s future is uncertain. An opportunity to prise him away could be hard for Wrexham to ignore as January ticks towards its deadline.
