Wrexham are weighing up a move for Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, with Millwall and Wolves also keen, according to Sky Sports News. The 26-year-old is available for transfer this summer and Sunderland are seeking around £8-10m, a figure Wrexham hope can be negotiated after being impressed by his Millwall form.
Patterson played a major role in the Black Cats’ promotion from the Championship last year. He was then displaced as Regis Le Bris’s first-choice by Robin Roefs following the Dutchman’s arrival from NEC Nijmegen, leaving him third in the pecking order.
Short of minutes on Wearside, he joined Millwall on loan in January to link up with former Sunderland boss Alex Neil. Patterson soon became number one at The Den and helped them reach the Championship play-off semi-finals, where they were eliminated by Hull City.
He has two years left on his contract. There is hope from the player’s side that Sunderland will be realistic if a Championship move emerges, as a fee at that level could stretch many second-tier clubs.
Competition for places remains fierce at Sunderland. Melker Ellborg is understood to be content as number two, while Patterson wants regular football at this stage of his career.
