We all expected Liam Rosenior to make changes for this game given we’re facing PSG in the Champions League on Tuesday, but this is still more of a shake up than we expected.

A lack of options in attack plus a desire to keep key midfielders rested has precipitated what looks like a change in formation to a back 5.

Robert Sanchez returns to play in goal after being dropped against Aston Villa.

At right back, Josh Acheampong gets a rare start. Then there’s a three central defender string of Benoit Badiashile, Mamadou Sarr and Tosin Adarabioyo. Jorrel Hato keeps his place at left back – but Marc Cucurella is fit enough for the bench.

In midfield, Romeo Lavia starts his first game since November. He plays alongside Andrey Santos.

The front three has Pedro Neto returning from suspension, Alejandro Garnacho on the left wing and Liam Delap leading the line.

Chelsea’s team to face Wrexham in the FA Cup.

Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo are all left out of the squad entirely, guaranteeing them a break. That’s only possible because Lavia is fit to start and Dario Essugo fit for the bench. The squad looks a lot stronger with them back.

In other news…

Sanchez is back in the team today, but his future remains very uncertain. Joe Cole is convinced that Chelsea are ready to move on, and he has someone in mind for them to buy.
